Elza C. Tiner, PhD, is a Professor of Latin at the University of Lynchburg, where she has been since 1989. She holds a PhD in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto, an MLS (Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies) from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, and a BA in English from Seton Hall University.
Her research focuses on Classical Latin Rhetoric, Early Drama and Performance, the History of Medicine, and the application of Latin in modern professions. She teaches courses such as Elementary Latin and College Writing Workshop, integrating medical terminology and Roman environmental history into her instruction.
Dr. Tiner bridges disciplines by connecting classical studies with contemporary fields like healthcare through her work on Latin’s relevance to modern professions. She contributes to academic initiatives at the University of Lynchburg, including the Westover Honors Research Center and Knight-Capron Library resources.
