Elyssa Fogleman is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). She holds an M.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Davis (2018) and is completing a Ph.D. in Sociology there (expected 2024).
Her research focuses on medical sociology, the sociology of emotions, and embodiment. She examines the social construction of emotional deviance, particularly burnout and depression, employing mixed methods including computational and qualitative approaches. Her work aims to uncover historical patterns in how these conditions are framed and understood socially.
