Elske van de Fliert

Associate Professor Elske van de Fliert serves as Director of the Centre for Communication and Social Change at the University of Queensland's School of Communication and Arts. With a PhD in Communication & Innovation (1993, Wageningen University), she leads research on participatory approaches to sustainable development across Southeast Asia, Timor Leste, and Mongolia.

• Collaborates with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and ACIAR

Her recent work examines community-led climate resilience, with publications in Environmental Hazards and Asia Pacific Viewpoint. She trains PhD students in mobile technology for development, indigenous agency, and food sovereignty. Supervision projects include gig economy dynamics in Indonesia and community radio empowerment in Kenya.
