Elliott Cheney, an Adjunct Professor of Cello at the University of Utah since 2001, holds a PhD, MA, and BA in Cello Performance from the University of Texas, where he studied under Phyllis Young. He has served as Principal Cellist for the National Symphony of Costa Rica and Savannah Symphony, and taught at institutions including the University of Costa Rica, Southwestern University, and Armstrong College.

As a soloist, Cheney has performed works by Bach, Saint-Saëns, Dvorak, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Brahms, and Beethoven across the United States, Canada, Brazil, Austria, Spain, and Mexico City. He maintains a large cello studio with his wife, Carey, teaching students from age three upwards, and collaborates with their son, Livingston (born 1995), in a trio.
