Dr. Elizabeth R Kaufer Busch is the Laura and Pete Walker Professor of American Studies and Co-Director of the Center for American Studies at Christopher Newport University. She joined the faculty in 2005 and specializes in American political thought, gender equality, and constitutionalism.
- Education: PhD in American Politics & Political Theory (Michigan State University), BA in Political Science & Sociology (Emory University)
Her research examines the historical and legal evolution of gender equality, focusing on Title IX, the intersection of constitutional law and education policy, and the role of civic education in sustaining democratic institutions. She has authored a book on Title IX and multiple peer-reviewed articles analyzing constitutionalist frameworks in academia.
Recent publications explore the Major Questions Doctrine, anti-constitutionalist culture on campuses, and statutory interpretations of Title IX. Awards include the Laura and Pete Walker Professorship (2019).
