Elizabeth Marshall

Liz Marshall is a Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she has served since 2021. Affiliated with the Public Writing Program (PWP), she specializes in health and science communication. She holds an MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Health from The Ohio State University.

Her research and professional interests bridge academic writing, public health education, and science journalism. She has authored four non-fiction books for young adults and contributed articles to outlets like The Scientist and Oncology News International. For years, she adjudicated the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing’s early-career journalism award.

Prior to academia, Marshall worked as a certified childbirth educator, birth doula, and public health professional, reflecting her commitment to accessible communication across disciplines. Her teaching integrates her dual expertise in creative writing and public health advocacy.
