Dr. Elizabeth Heeg is a Professor of Biology at Northwestern College. She earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology from Northwestern University and a B.A. from Northwestern College. Recognized for her exceptional teaching, she received the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award and the 2003 Teaching Assistant of the Year Award. Dr. Heeg emphasizes hands-on learning and collaborative engagement with students.
As an academic advisor for the Pre-Health Professions Club, she guides students pursuing medical careers and co-developed the AptarePrep MCAT preparation software. Her research spans molecular biology, microbiology, and physiology, including studies on MRSA infections, PCR applications in phage identification, and water metabolism in selectively bred rat lines.
