She specializes in disability studies, gender and sexuality, race, and colonial science with a particular focus on the Portuguese and British empires. She teaches modules on Portuguese-speaking world cultures, critical theory, and postcolonialism.
Dr. Jones holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2016) and has held academic roles at Manchester, Sheffield, and Birmingham universities before joining Southampton in 2016. She actively contributes to curriculum development and serves as an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion representative. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to race, disability, and queer theory.
Her recent research collaborations with Dr. Vivienne Orchard explore institutional disability marginalization, while her publications address topics such as neurodiversity, colonial medical practices, and postcolonial African political cultures. She is a sought-after speaker on disability studies in modern languages and has presented at conferences since 2017.
