About
Eleanor Cheadle is a NIHR BRC-funded Research Fellow in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester, leading translational science within the Targeted Therapy Group under Prof Tim Illidge. She manages a team investigating immunomodulatory effects of radiotherapy and biomarkers in cancer patients. Her work focuses on enhancing anti-tumor immune responses via combinations of radiotherapy and immunotherapies.
Education: PhD in Cancer Immunology (University of Leeds, 1999-2002); BSc (Hons) Biochemistry with Molecular and Cellular Biology (University of Birmingham). Professional affiliations include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and membership in the British Society for Immunology.
Research interests include tumor immune microenvironment dynamics, predictive biomarkers for radiotherapy/immunotherapy combinations, and improving efficacy of anti-CD20 therapies. Her lab explores CAR T-cell therapy for B-cell malignancies and mechanisms of antibody-based treatments.
Teaching roles include leading MRes Oncology Research Projects and supervising undergraduate/PhD students. Collaborations span academic institutions and clinical teams, with grants from NIHR BRC and Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund. She chairs the Manchester Institute Biosafety Committee and contributes to Phase I clinical trials for CAR T-cell therapies.
Key achievements include pioneering CAR T-cell trials and identifying lymphocyte count as a predictive biomarker in oropharyngeal cancer treatment. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
