Elco van Burg

Elco van Burg is a Full Professor of Organizational Theory and Head of the Organizational Theory Section at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship from Eindhoven University of Technology and an M.A. (cum laude) in Theology from Utrecht University. His research bridges organizational theory and entrepreneurship, focusing on social networks, managerial decision-making, lean/agile organizing, and social/religious entrepreneurship. He has led projects funded by ZonMw, NWO, ESA, and the EU, addressing topics like crisis management, space sector innovation, and entrepreneurship education. He teaches Organization Theory and supervises over five PhD students. Awards include the Journal of Business Venturing Best Paper Award (2022) and the Best PhD Reviewer Award (2009). Ancillary roles include advising social enterprises in Papua, Indonesia.
