Edwin Ushiro

Edwin Ushiro is a Senior Lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design in the BFA Game and Entertainment Design, BFA Animation, and BFA Illustration programs. He is an artist from Hawaii currently residing in Southern California, renowned for his mixed media technique that blends ink, acrylic, and traditional drawings on lucite to explore themes of Hawaiian culture, Japanese folklore, youth, and nostalgia.

Ushiro’s artwork draws from his childhood experiences in Wailuku, Maui, and his Japanese heritage, interweaving narratives of 'talk story' and Obake tales. His exhibitions span global venues including the Grand Palais (France), Museum of Kyoto (Japan), and Honolulu Museum of Art (Hawaii), with a monograph titled Gathering Whispers published in both Eastern and Western editions.

Recent publications (2014-2022) highlight his contributions to cultural storytelling, mixed media techniques, and community art initiatives like Pow! Wow! murals (2016). His professional clients include Sony, Disney, and Sanrio, reflecting his interdisciplinary work in entertainment design and visual consultancy.
