Edwin Mayorga is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Studies and affiliated with the Program in Latin American and Latino Studies at Swarthmore College. His work focuses on urban educational policy, Latinx education, and participatory research with marginalized communities. Dr. Mayorga co-founded the Education in our Barrios Project (#BarrioEdProj), which uses participatory action research to advocate for equitable education policies. He also leads the Cultivating Community Together Project, examining school-community partnerships in Philadelphia. His research has been supported by grants from the Spencer Foundation, Cottonwood Foundation, and CUNY-GC.
Mayorga holds a Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center, an M.A. from Teachers College Columbia University, and a B.A. from UC San Diego. He teaches courses on education policy, ethnic studies, and antiracist pedagogy. His scholarly contributions include co-editing What’s Race Got to Do With It? and founding the #CritEdPol journal of critical education policy studies.
Awards and fellowships include the CUNY-GC Enhanced Chancellor’s Fellowship and MAGNET Dissertation Fellowship. His advocacy spans K-12 and higher education reform, with recent work focusing on antiracist curricula and sanctuary policies in institutions.
