Ed Bennett

Dr. Ed Bennett is a Research Associate and Masters Composition Coordinator at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London. An Irish composer born in Bangor, County Down, he has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music over the past 25 years.

His educational background includes a BA (Hons), MMus, and PhD. Bennett's work spans multiple disciplines and media, with a particular focus on bridging acoustic and electronic elements in innovative ways.

Bennett's research interests center around contemporary composition with strong rhythmic energy and extreme contrasts. His work frequently combines acoustic, electronic, and multimedia elements, creating what The Guardian described as 'unclassifiable, raw-nerve music of huge energy and imagination.' He is particularly interested in environmental themes, as evidenced by recent works like 'All Earth Once Drowned' and 'Everything is Connected,' which address humanity's relationship with the changing environment.

His most recent works demonstrate a continued evolution in his compositional approach, with increasing focus on environmental themes and interdisciplinary collaborations. The 2024 premiere of 'Concerto for Piano, Keyboards and Orchestra' at New Music Dublin and his election to Aosdána in 2024 mark significant milestones in his career.
