Duncan Cook

Duncan Cook serves as Senior Lecturer in Photography at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University. He leads the BA (Hons) Photography course and delivers on the Constellation (history and theory) programme, bringing extensive experience from teaching positions at multiple UK universities including the Royal College of Art, Kingston University, University of West London, and University of Gloucestershire.

Dr. Cook's research focuses on Photography and Spatial Culture, with expertise spanning Fine Art, Visual Culture, and Media Studies. His academic journey began with a Fine Art degree in 1992, followed by work in art therapy before transitioning to education. He completed postgraduate studies at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, where he also conducted doctoral research. His educational background includes PhD, MA (RCA), and PGCE qualifications.

As an active researcher and practitioner, Cook has contributed to numerous national and international conferences and exhibitions. His work has been presented at venues including the Photographic History Research Centre, the Association of Art Historians, the Slade School of Art, and the Bartlett School of Architecture. He has extensive experience teaching both practical and theoretical aspects of photography across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Throughout his career, Cook has served as an external moderator for HNC/HND and City and Guilds Photography programs, taught Foundation Studies in Art and Design, and led BA (Hons) courses in Art and Design and Digital Arts. His professional trajectory demonstrates a strong commitment to photography education and research in the UK higher education landscape.
