Duffy Felmlee

Duffy Felmlee is Associate Professor of Prosthetics & Orthotics in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford. His work spans underwater biomechanics with combat-wounded veterans and global tele-health initiatives aimed at improving prosthetic care in developing nations.

Research Interests:

• Prosthetic and orthotic engineering for limb-loss populations
• Underwater performance optimisation for amputee scuba divers
• Remote clinical consultation models via telemedicine
• Postural control mechanisms in individuals lacking independent sitting

Recent peer-reviewed work (2017) introduced a trunk-support system to quantify seated balance in neurologically impaired users, bridging assistive-device design and motor-control theory.

Active Projects:

• Multi-year study with Combat Wounded Veterans Challenge evaluating fins, thrusters and buoyancy devices for lower-extremity amputees during scuba activity off Looe Key, Florida.
• Collaboration with Hartford Healthcare and NGO “Dreaming and Working Together” to implement tele-rehabilitation protocols for prosthetic users in low-resource settings.
