Duat Vu

Duat Vu is an Associate Professor in the Art and Design Department at Missouri State University (Springfield campus). He holds an MFA from the University of Connecticut and a BFA from Queen’s University, Canada. His work focuses on immigrant experiences, cultural identity, and Vietnamese diaspora narratives, reflected in his art addressing themes like displacement, cultural preservation, and transpacific migration.

Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Drawing I, Painting III, and Design/Color Theory. His research and professional activities include solo exhibitions (e.g., 'The Oceans We Crossed' at Missouri Western State University, 2007) and curated shows like 'Impact' (2011). He has been recognized with awards including 2nd Prize in the 2016 Lines Into Shapes competition and multiple honorable mentions in juried exhibitions.

His art critically explores the intersection of personal history and cultural dislocation, often using visual metaphors like pillars of salt to symbolize immigrant burdens. Professional service includes roles as a juror and curator, contributing to contemporary art discourse in the Midwest and beyond.
