Douglas Prairie is a Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU). He holds a B.S. in agricultural engineering from SDSU (1997) and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Boise State University (2004). With over 20 years of industry experience, he specializes in agriculture power systems, fluid power technologies, and precision agriculture applications.
His academic responsibilities include teaching courses such as ABE 314 (Ag Power and Machines), ABE 350 (Fluid Power Systems), and ABE 411/422 (Senior Capstone Design). He also advises the International Quarter Scale Club and serves on professional committees including ASABE, SAE, and ASME.
Prior to academia, Prairie held roles as a Mechanical Research Manager at POET Research Group, Product Manager at Raven Industries, Engineering Manager at Multiquip, and New Product Development Engineer at CaseIH. His office is located in Room 108 of the Raven Precision Agriculture Center on the SDSU campus.
