Dr. Douglas M. Strong is the Paul T. Walls Professor of Wesleyan Studies and the History of Christianity at Seattle Pacific University’s School of Theology. Previously, he served as Dean of the School of Theology for 14 years and founding Dean of Seattle Pacific Seminary.
- Education: BA from Houghton College, MDiv and PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary
His research focuses on the history of Christianity, particularly 18th- and 19th-century revivalism, social reform, and the Wesleyan Holiness movement. He has authored four books, including Perfectionist Politics: Abolitionism and the Religious Tensions of American Democracy (1999), which examines the theological basis for antislavery activism through primary documents.
Dr. Strong has held leadership roles in academic societies, including President of the Wesleyan Theological Society and editorial board member of Methodist History. He has taught internationally in Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the UK, and is actively involved in renewing Wesleyan small-group discipleship practices through SPU’s SoulCare program.
