Dr Don Starr is Assistant Professor and Director of Studies (Japanese) at Durham University's School of Modern Languages and Cultures, where he also directs the MA in Translation Studies. His research examines Chinese literature, classical and modern Chinese language pedagogy, and cross-cultural representation in historical media.
Publications include studies on British media portrayals of Confucius, James Legge's translation methodologies, and the global expansion of Confucius Institutes. He maintains active supervision of 12 doctoral students researching topics including classical Chinese literature, translation theory, and Sino-Japanese cultural relations.
