Dominique Daniel is a Professor and Humanities Librarian for History and Modern Languages at Oakland University’s Kresge Library, where he also coordinates Archives and Special Collections. His roles include providing library instruction, research consultations, and overseeing collection development for Modern Languages and History. He holds a Doctorate in North American Studies from the University of Paris-Diderot, alongside advanced degrees in Information Science and French/English Studies from institutions including the University of Michigan and Sorbonne Nouvelle.
Research interests focus on the history of libraries/archives, information literacy in digital contexts, and the evolution of scholarly publishing. His work examines immigrant and ethnic heritage documentation, labor history (e.g., UAW libraries), and North American immigration policies. Notable publications include Identity Palimpsests: Archiving Ethnicity (2014) and Oakland University: A Campus History (2017).
Recent articles discuss challenges in digital archiving during the pandemic and strategies for preserving ethnic press materials. He has received NEH grants, Fulbright support, and awards for research excellence. Active in professional service, he chairs H-Net's Research and Publications division and serves on editorial boards for Libraries: Culture, History, and Society and the History of Bibliography network.
