Emily Spunaugle is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Archives and Special Collections at Oakland University Libraries. She serves as a Library Liaison for English, Film Studies and Production, and the Honors College. Her academic journey includes a PhD in English from Wayne State University (2024), an MLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2015), and prior degrees in English from Loyola University Chicago and Olivet Nazarene University.
Her research focuses on library history, book culture, and eighteenth-century women’s writing, particularly through the Marguerite Hicks Collection. Collaborating with Dr. Megan Peiser as Co-Director of the Marguerite Hicks Project, she examines collection strategies of early women’s literary archives in the U.S. She has published widely on topics ranging from Soviet-era libraries to early modern literary societies.
Spunaugle has received grants including the Lewis Walpole Library Travel Grant (2024) and the Chawton House Fellowship (2022). Her professional service includes roles on the Oakland University Senate Library Committee and the Center for Public Humanities Board. She actively contributes to academic communities like the Bibliographical Society of America and SHARP News.
Awarded the 2018 Faculty Recognition Luncheon for Teaching, she emphasizes pedagogical innovation in humanities librarianship. Her work bridges archival practice, digital preservation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in cultural heritage studies.
