Dominic Taylor is a Professor of Theater & African American Studies at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. He holds a PhD in History from New York University (2007) and is Vice Chair of Graduate Studies. His research focuses on African American theater aesthetics, cultural performance, and play development processes like OKRA. Taylor has directed nationally acclaimed productions including adaptations of Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye and classic Harlem Renaissance works.
His scholarly research explores African American theater history, slave rebellions in Cuba, and cultural identity through historical narratives. Publications examine gendered dimensions of resistance movements and theoretical frameworks for African American performance. Taylor previously served as Associate Artistic Director at Penumbra Theatre Company and has taught at Brown University, University of Minnesota, and Bard College.
