Darryl Dickson-Carr is the E.A. Lilly Professor of English at Southern Methodist University (SMU), specializing in 20th-century American literature, African American literature, and satire. His research focuses on the Harlem Renaissance, African American satirical traditions, and rhetorical practices from antebellum to contemporary periods. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
His academic contributions include seminal works like Spoofing the Modern: Satire in the Harlem Renaissance (2015) and African American Satire: The Sacredly Profane Novel (2001). He has been recognized with the 2009 Dedman College Spirit of Innovation Award and the 2006 Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award.
