Doaa Althalathini

Dr. Doaa Althalathini is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Enterprise and Subject Coordinator for the MSc Business and Management Programmes at the Oxford Brookes Business School. She holds a PhD, MA, MBA, BSc, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels in entrepreneurship, innovation, and research methods. She supervises MBA/MSc dissertations and doctoral research in social innovation.

Her research focuses on resilience and entrepreneurship in politically unstable regions like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine, with a particular emphasis on gender dynamics, family relations, and religion. She explores refugee entrepreneurship in the Middle East and Europe, and has secured significant grants including £9,837 from the British Academy for her project on refugee entrepreneurship integration. Additional grants include Santander Scholarships for visiting research in Berlin.

Key research themes include: women’s entrepreneurship in conflict zones, Islamic feminism’s role in empowerment, and entrepreneurial resilience in adversity. Her work bridges gender studies, global development, and public health management.

Awards include the 2021 Emerald Literati Outstanding Paper Award for her study on Palestinian women’s entrepreneurship in Gaza, and a Best Poster Presentation at the 2018 British Academy of Management Conference. She actively participates in international conferences such as the Academy of Management and European Academy of Management, presenting on topics like entrepreneurial masculinities and resilience in war-torn contexts.
