Dimitrios Kalliontzis

Dimitrios Kalliontzis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston's Cullen College of Engineering. His research focuses on structural engineering, fluid-structure interaction, and advanced materials like ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC). He leads the Structural Performance and Fluid-Structure Interaction Lab (website).

His work addresses structural resilience under extreme loads, including hurricane impacts and seismic events. Key areas include UHPC shear mechanics, masonry reinforcement, and fluid-structure interaction modeling using advanced numerical frameworks like the ALE-SSM method.

Advising & Grants: He supervises four PhD students and one MSc student, focusing on topics like UHPC constitutive modeling, resilient masonry design, and wave energy converters. His research has been supported through collaborations with industry partners like Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH).

Labs & Teams: Directs the Structural Performance and Fluid-Structure Interaction Lab, fostering interdisciplinary projects on coastal and seismic resilience. Engages in collaborative efforts with institutions like the Western States Clay Products Association (WSCPA).
