Prof. Detlef Nolte is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hamburg’s Department of Social Sciences and a Senior Research Fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). He has held leadership roles, including Director of the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies (2006–2018) and Acting President of the GIGA (2011–2014). His research focuses on Latin American political institutions, regional integration, and geopolitical dynamics. Nolte’s work examines topics such as regional powers, transitional justice, and the EU’s engagement with Latin America. He has been a visiting professor at institutions like the University of São Paulo and FLACSO Argentina.
