Derek Vaillant

Professor Derek Vaillant is a historian appointed in both the Department of Communication and Media and the Department of History (affiliate faculty) at the University of Michigan. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Yale University. His research focuses on transnational media history, American music and sound studies, and the history of U.S. radio broadcasting. Current work explores racial formation and the rise of American broadcasting. He has contributed to award-winning NPR and PBS productions.
