Derek Patton

Dr. Derek Patton is an Associate Professor at the School of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi. His work focuses on advanced polymeric materials, particularly functional surfaces and sustainable polymers.

Education:

• B.S. in Chemistry (2000), Jacksonville State University
• M.S. in Chemistry (2002), University of Alabama at Birmingham
• Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry (2006), University of Houston

Research Interests span polymer synthesis, degradable materials, and surface engineering, with applications in anti-wetting, anti-fouling, and bioactive systems. His group develops functional polymers for sustainable solutions and antimicrobial platforms.
