Derek Lane

Derek Lane is Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Kentucky's College of Communication and Information. His research examines judgments and decisions by preparers, users, and auditors of financial statements, with methodological interests in experimental accounting research. He teaches courses in interpersonal communication, instructional messaging, and crisis communication.

His research focuses on instructional risk communication, crisis messaging effectiveness, and information processing in health contexts. Recent work explores COVID-19 information seeking behaviors, technostress in online learning environments, and collaborative learning processes.

Dr. Lane received the 2023 UK Alumni Association Great Teacher Award and maintains active collaborations in risk communication research. His articles frequently appear in top communication journals including The Accounting Review and Journal of Information Science.
