Dennis Carroll serves as a faculty member in the Jazz Studies department within the School of Music at DePaul University.
His instructional responsibilities include Applied Jazz Bass and Jazz Combos. A professional bassist since age 17 from Poplar Grove, IL, Carroll studied under Mike Barnett and has performed with prominent artists including Bobby Broom, Ron Blake, Ira Sullivan, and Russ Long. He maintains active recording and performance collaborations with Bobby Broom, Pharez Whitted, Ron Perrillo, Pat Mallinger, and John Wojciechowski.
His performance-based research interests focus on Jazz traditions, Bass Performance techniques, and Jazz Ensemble dynamics, reflecting his dual role as educator and active performer in the Chicago jazz scene.
