Denise Furlong

Dr. Denise Furlong is an Assistant Professor at Georgian Court University's School of Arts, Sciences, and Education, where she serves as Director of Advanced Programs for Reading Specialist & ESL. She holds an Ed.D. and Ed.M. from Rutgers University (Magna Cum Laude) in Literacy and Language Education, and a BS from The College of New Jersey (Summa Cum Laude) in Elementary Education & Spanish.

Her research focuses on Newcomers and SLIFE, Literacy for diverse students, and Holistic professional learning. She works extensively with multilingual learners, emphasizing cultural inclusion, social-emotional support, and equitable instructional strategies.

Dr. Furlong's recent publications explore inclusion frameworks for multilingual learners and educator resilience during crises. She has presented at international conferences including NJTESOL, NAELPA, and Delta Kappa Gamma, addressing topics like SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) support for MLs and collaborative approaches for newcomer students.

As Director of Advanced Studies, she leads initiatives for ESL and literacy programs. Her work combines academic research with practical classroom applications, particularly for students with diverse educational backgrounds.
