Demian Kogutek

Demian Kogutek is an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy and Coordinator of the Master of Music Therapy program at Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music in Waterloo, Ontario. He also serves as Director of the Manfred and Penny Conrad Institute for Music Therapy Research.

Dr. Kogutek specializes in neurological rehabilitation through music therapy, developing the Improvised Active Music Therapy (IAMT) method which uses real-time MIDI data from client drum-set improvisations to measure movement velocity, rhythmic complexity, and synchronicity. His research integrates computational analysis with clinical therapy to objectively assess motor function improvement in neurological conditions.

As Master of Music Therapy Coordinator, Dr. Kogutek oversees graduate student training and curriculum development. His Conrad Institute research is supported by the Mary Elizabeth Horney Fellowship, focusing on evidence-based therapeutic protocols for neurological rehabilitation.

He leads the Manfred and Penny Conrad Institute for Music Therapy Research, directing studies on music therapy efficacy for motor rehabilitation in neurological disorders through active client instrument engagement.
