Dr. Delores V. Mullings is a Full Professor in the School of Social Work at Memorial University of Newfoundland and concurrently serves as Vice-Provost (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion). Her academic roles include former Interim Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Chair in Teaching and Learning at the School of Social Work. She holds expertise in anti-Black racism, critical race theory, and decolonizing education.
Her research focuses on marginalized populations, including Black elders, racialized LGBTQ+ communities, and newcomers to Canada. Key interests include mental health in the Black church, intersectional motherhood, and systemic discrimination in policy and employment. Dr. Mullings employs community-engaged scholarship, integrating pedagogical innovations with social justice advocacy.
Her funded research includes SSHRC grants examining newcomer settlement challenges in Atlantic Canada and IRCC-supported projects fostering LGBTQ2S+ inclusion. Major publications include Africentric Social Work (2021) and works on Black resilience during the pandemic. She has led initiatives such as culturally relevant virtual care for elderly Black adults during the pandemic and anti-racism interventions in social work practice.
Grants and partnerships include $487k from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for LGBTQ2S+ newcomer collaborations and $75k from PHAC on mental health in Black religious communities. Her work emphasizes policy reform, decolonizing education, and interdisciplinary collaboration across Canada and internationally.
Dr. Mullings' teaching philosophy centers decolonized, learner-centered approaches that honor students' lived experiences. She has pioneered community service-learning projects linking academic rigor with anti-racist praxis.
