Debbie Rodan

Associate Professor Debbie Rodan is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University, specializing in Media and Cultural Studies. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University (2000). Her research focuses on animal welfare activism, mediated identity construction, and digital media's role in social change. She has authored/co-authored four books and over 45 peer-reviewed publications. Notable works include Activism and Digital Culture in Australia (2017) and Imagining New Human-Animal Futures in Australia (2022).

Rodan is a member of key associations like the Australia and New Zealand Communication Association (ANZCA) and the Australasian Animal Studies Association (AASA). She has secured an Australian Research Council grant (2007–2012) for research on heart patients' media engagement. Her recent articles critically analyze media representation of animal welfare and conflict reporting. She has supervised numerous PhD students, focusing on topics like media activism, identity politics, and cross-cultural studies.
