Dean Sorenson

Dean Sorenson is an Associate Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota. He is a composer, arranger, trombonist, educator, and clinician specializing in jazz pedagogy and performance.

Education

• M.M. in Jazz and Contemporary Media, Eastman School of Music, 1992

His research focuses on developing accessible jazz education methods. He authored publications like THE TOTAL JAZZ THEORY WORKBOOK and co-created the STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE series for school ensembles. He has composed for the Minnesota Orchestra, U.S. military bands, and conducts clinics globally.
