Dean Roberts is a String Project Instructor in Viola at the University of Texas, pursuing a Master of Music in Viola Performance. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Missouri, where he served as principal violist for the Philharmonic Orchestra for three years. His performances include the World Premier of André Thomas's Mass: A Celebration of Love and Joy at the Kauffman Center, as well as roles in operas and musical theater productions.
He has received accolades such as the Kimmel Friends of Music Distinguished String Player (2023) and multiple awards in the MMTA Competitions. Roberts teaches with the University of Texas String Project, Missouri String Project, Missouri Academy of Music, and Missouri Symphony Conservatory, focusing on nurturing young musicians. He has performed with ensembles like the Quincy Symphony, Leme Ensemble, and Missouri Symphony, and served as Concertmaster of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia National Convention Orchestra.
His pedagogical influences include mentors Morgan Owen, Leslie Perna, and Roger Myers. Roberts actively participates in chamber music series and orchestral collaborations across the Midwest.
