University of Texas Health Science Center at San AntonioAbout
Dean Bacich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). He is involved in Ph.D. programs in Integrated Biomedical Sciences, Biology of Aging, and Cancer Biology. His research focuses on prostate cancer, particularly the role of Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), folate metabolism in cancer progression, and its implications on FASN expression and nuclear localization. Additionally, he explores PSMA's role in renal tumor vasculature and urinary incontinence in diabetes.
Dr. Bacich earned his Honors degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Adelaide in 1990 and a Graduate degree in the same field in 1997. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research (Departments of Surgery and Urology) in 1999 and the Cleveland Clinic (Department of Cancer Biology) in 2002. He joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh as an Assistant Professor in 2003 before moving to UTHSCSA in 2014 as an Associate Professor.
His research bridges cancer biology, metabolic pathways, and clinical applications, emphasizing the interplay between folate intake and cancer progression. While no specific awards or grants are detailed, his work has contributed to understanding molecular mechanisms in prostate and renal cancers.
