Dawn Flood

Dr. Dawn Flood serves as Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Regina, contributing to 20th Century United States History scholarship with emphasis on marginalized perspectives and social justice frameworks.

Her academic credentials include a BA cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and advanced degrees (MA and PhD) from the University of Illinois.

Professor Flood's research program centers on five interconnected domains: 20th Century United States History, Women’s and Gender History, the History of Sexuality and Medicine, American Legal History, and African American history/History of U.S. race relations. She investigates how legal systems, medical practices, and social movements intersected to shape experiences of race and gender, particularly through urban case studies in Chicago that reveal systemic inequalities.

Her publication trajectory demonstrates sustained focus on African American experiences within legal contexts, evolving from courtroom strategies of rape victims in the 1950s (2005) to institutional analysis in 'Rape in Chicago' (2012), then expanding to international civil rights connections with the Black Panther Party (2014). This body of work consistently challenges historical narratives through rigorous archival recovery of marginalized voices.
