David Wilson is Professor in the Celtic Studies Program at St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, and since 2013 has served as General Editor of the Dictionary of Canadian Biography. He is a leading scholar of Irish and Canadian history whose work focuses on the Irish diaspora, state security, revolutionary movements, and transatlantic cultural exchanges.

Research Interests
Wilson’s scholarship centers on the Irish experience in North America, examining how revolutionary and conservative ideologies traveled across the Atlantic. He explores intersections between religion, nationalism, and empire, with particular attention to how Irish migrants negotiated identity, race, and loyalty within British and Canadian state structures. His work also investigates state surveillance and civil liberties, especially during periods of political upheaval.

Across a dozen major monographs, Wilson has traced Irish‐Canadian networks from the eighteenth century to the present. His publications integrate biography, political history, and cultural analysis, illuminating figures such as Thomas D’Arcy McGee and broader movements like the Orange Order and United Irishmen. Collectively, these works have reshaped understandings of imperial entanglements and diasporic nationalism.

Editorial & Institutional Roles
As General Editor of the Dictionary of Canadian Biography, Wilson oversees a flagship national project that documents the lives of influential Canadians. Previously, he taught in the University of Toronto’s History Department for three years before moving to St. Michael’s College. His earlier academic appointments included sessional positions at St. Lawrence University, Queen’s University, and St. Thomas University, as well as a research role at the Institute of Irish Studies, Queen's University Belfast.
