David TAN is a Professor and Co-Director of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and the Law at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Law. Previously, he served as Vice Dean (Academic Affairs) from 2015–2021 and Director (Communications) from 2013–2019. He holds a PhD (Melbourne Law School, 2010), LLM (Harvard, 1999), and LLB/BCom (University of Melbourne, 1995). His academic career includes teaching at Melbourne Law School and the University of Hong Kong, as well as a visiting affiliation at NYU Law School's Engelberg Center.

Research focuses on personality rights, copyright, trademarks, freedom of expression, constitutional law, and tort law. Notable publications include a monograph on celebrity personality rights (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and over 100 articles in top-tier journals.
His recent work examines AI's legal implications, including authorship rights and trademark semiotics. David also maintains a dual career as a fine art and fashion photographer, with exhibitions in Singapore and international publications like Vanity Fair.
