David Rozotto is an Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at the University of Waterloo. He holds a Ph.D. (2012) and M.A. (2008) in Spanish Literature from the University of Ottawa, along with a Master of Catholic Education (2005) and a Certification in Translation (2000) from the University of Saskatchewan and the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council, respectively.

David’s research focuses on Central American narrative, particularly Guatemalan novels, Latin American cultural and literary studies, and the regionalist novel tradition. His work explores sociopolitical contexts, fear narratives, and the intersection of cultural identity with literary forms. He has edited special issues on Central American studies and published extensively on regionalist authors like Virgilio Rodríguez Macal.
His recent publications include articles on postconflict narratives, fear in Latin American fiction, and translations of Guatemalan authors. He has presented at international conferences, including the Northeast Modern Language Association and the Midwest Modern Language Association, with themes ranging from hyperbolic protagonists in Central America to geopolitical marginalization in Honduran women’s narratives.
As a dedicated educator, David has redesigned courses such as SPAN 228: Introduction to Latin American Literature and SPAN 395: Cultural Dimensions in English/Spanish Literary Translation, emphasizing critical analysis, cultural interpretation, and linguistic fluency. He has also organized panels and reviewed for journals like the Canadian Journal of Hispanic Studies and CiberLetras.
