David Reynolds

David Reynolds is the Director of the School of Performing Arts and a Professor of Music at South Dakota State University (SDSU). He previously held faculty positions at institutions in Montana and Colorado and served as a member of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in Washington, D.C. Reynolds specializes in trumpet, horn, and chamber music instruction, and actively performs and coaches chamber groups. He is known for championing works by living composers and creating soundtracks for silent films using trumpet repertoire.

Education includes a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from the University of Kansas, a Master of Music (M.M.) from Florida State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Maryland at College Park. His academic responsibilities encompass directing the School of Performing Arts, teaching applied high brass, conducting trumpet choir and brass quintet ensembles, and serving on committees.

Reynolds has presented original research on wind band history at state, regional, and national conferences. He contributed articles and reviews to academic journals such as the American Bandmasters Association Journal of Band Research and the International Trumpet Guild Journal. Additionally, he has held leadership roles in the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), including board membership and visiting evaluator positions.

His professional affiliations include the International Trumpet Guild. Reynolds’ work integrates historical research with performance practice, emphasizing collaborative projects and innovative interpretations of classical and contemporary repertoire.
