About
David Ray is a Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology, and Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology at Manchester Royal Infirmary, affiliated with the University of Manchester's Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Gastroenterology. His research focuses on circadian timing mechanisms, glucocorticoid signaling, and their roles in immunity and inflammation. He holds a MB ChB from the University of Manchester (1987), a PhD (1994), and completed postdoctoral work at UCLA (1994–1996). He has led drug discovery programs, including the development of SEGRA molecules, and holds Wellcome Trust funding. Awards include the Society for Endocrinology Medal (2020).
- Key projects: Centre for Biological Timing, Chronotherapy in Asthma Management, and REVERBα in Pulmonary Fibrosis.
- Supervised 23 students and contributed to economic/health impacts via diagnostic tools for ACTH-related hormones.
- Active in professional bodies: Society for Endocrinology, Endocrine Society, Royal College of Physicians.
Research interests span circadian rhythms' influence on macrophage function, lung immunity, and epigenetic regulation of glucocorticoid receptors. Notable contributions include discoveries on glucocorticoid resistance mechanisms and circadian clock interactions with inflammatory pathways.
