David Podell is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at both Yale University School of Medicine and Frank H. Netter M.D. School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University. He has served as Chair of Medicine at Waterbury Hospital since 2012 (previously 1994–2007) and directs the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program’s clinical faculty at Waterbury Hospital.
Dr. Podell graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1980 with both MD and PhD degrees. His academic career includes board certifications in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, and he was named a Master of the American College of Physicians (2011) and Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (1990).
His research focuses on clinical rheumatology and patient-centered care, with publications spanning autoimmune diseases like Sjogren’s syndrome, hepatitis C-associated vasculitis, IL-6 inhibitor complications, and multisystem inflammatory disorders. Articles reflect his expertise in rheumatology and interdisciplinary medicine.
