Shane Murray

Dr. Murray completed his medical training at the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School in Ireland (BMBS, 2016), followed by internship at University Hospital Limerick (2017), residency at Mount Sinai Morningside & Mount Sinai West Hospitals (2020), where he served as Chief Resident (2021), and a Postdoctoral Clinical Fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (2024).

Dr. Murray specializes in rheumatology with research interests focused on autoimmune disorders, particularly lupus arthritis, and the application of advanced imaging techniques including optical imaging and ultrasound for diagnosis and monitoring. His work demonstrates a strong emphasis on translational research bridging imaging technology with clinical rheumatology practice. Recent publications show his leadership in systematic reviews of imaging modalities for lupus arthritis and development of novel patient-friendly imaging systems.

His research publications from 2019-2025 reveal consistent focus on rheumatic diseases, particularly lupus and vasculitis, with increasing emphasis on advanced imaging techniques and their clinical applications. Dr. Murray demonstrates strong commitment to medical education, having completed the Mount Sinai medical educator track during residency, served as Chief Resident where he developed academic curriculum and created an educational website for residents, and later as Chief Fellow where he created an evidence-based physical examination curriculum. His expertise in musculoskeletal ultrasound includes training at the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR) and certification in rheumatology ultrasound.

Dr. Murray maintains active clinical practice in rheumatology at Yale Medicine's Orchard location while contributing to the academic mission through teaching, research, and development of innovative diagnostic approaches for rheumatic diseases.
