David Park

David Park is a Professor and Director of the Conservation of Wall Painting Department at The Courtauld Institute of Art. He specializes in medieval and Asian wall paintings, Buddhist art conservation, and historical art preservation. Park holds fellowships from the Society of Antiquaries, Royal Society of Arts, and International Institute for Conservation. He has led major projects such as the National Survey of Medieval Wall Painting and established The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Centre for Buddhist Art and Conservation.

Education: B.A./M.A. from Manchester University and the University of Cambridge.

Research Interests: Medieval wall paintings in England and France, Asian wall paintings, Buddhist art conservation, and historical preservation methodologies. His work bridges art history and conservation science, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. Recent projects include studies on Ladakh’s Buddhist wall paintings and medieval polychrome sculpture.

Awards: Recipient of the 2013 William M. B. Berger Prize for British Art History (co-authored Wall Paintings of Eton). His fellowships include FIIC, FRSA, and FSA. He has curated exhibitions like the 2002-2003 'Wonder: Painted Sculpture from Medieval England' at the Henry Moore Institute.

Advising and Grants: Supervised numerous PhD students on topics ranging from medieval English art to Buddhist conservation in Ladakh. Involved in grant-funded projects such as the 'Rajput Pleasure Palace' conference and the 'Art of Merit' publication. Holds roles on multiple advisory committees for heritage preservation.

Labs/Teams: Leads the Conservation of Wall Painting Department and directs the Buddhist Art and Conservation Centre, fostering global collaborations in art conservation education and research.
