About
David Osbaldeston is a Reader in Fine Art at the Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. His academic roles include serving as an External Examiner for MA/MFA Fine Art programs at City & Guilds (2022–25) and other institutions since 2010. He holds a 2026 Abbey Fellowship in Painting at The British School at Rome and has been an Artist in Residence at Cove Park (2025). His research focuses on drawing as foundational to his practice, exploring themes of value, class, identity, and materiality through 'flat sculpture,' combining collage, painting, and printmaking.
Recent exhibitions include A Pastiche of Different Techniques (2024, Glasgow Print Studio) and Modern History Volume 1, 2, & 3 (2015). His monograph A Pastiche of Different Techniques (2025, Slimvolume) reflects his interdisciplinary approach. He has contributed to journals like Art Papers and presented at the Drawing Research Forum (2019).
Osbaldeston’s work is part of the Art and Performance Research Hub. He lives and works across Manchester, London, and Scotland, and his practice engages with institutional critique and material experimentation.
