David N. Pellow

Professor David N. Pellow serves as the Dehlsen Chair and Department Chair of Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also directs the Global Environmental Justice Project. His academic roles and affiliations include teaching courses on environmental justice, social movements, and sustainability, and collaborating with community-based organizations to address socioenvironmental inequality.

Education: Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University.

Research focuses on environmental justice, racial and class disparities in environmental burdens, and grassroots movements addressing socioenvironmental crises. Key areas include fossil fuel development in California’s Central Coast, environmental racism in Aspen, and the impact of government repression on radical environmental activists.

Advising and grants involve leading student projects, such as developing a Green New Deal for California’s Central Coast, and collaborating with organizations like the Central Coast Climate Justice Network. He has also advised studies on Silicon Valley’s labor and environmental justice issues.
