Professor David Meads serves as Professor of Health Economics and Director of the Academic Unit of Health Economics within the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds. He leads NIHR, charity, and industry-funded research projects and has served on the NICE Technology Appraisal Committee (D) for over seven years.

Research Interests:
His expertise spans Health Technology Assessment (HTA), decision-analytic modelling for pharmaceutical/MedTech development, preference elicitation methods, and health outcomes valuation. His work focuses on optimizing healthcare decision-making through economic evaluation frameworks and early-stage modelling to guide pricing and technology investment.
Active Research:
Current projects include oncology trials (ARIEL, FLAIR, DANTE, STAMINA), health economics studies (GENERATE for EQ-5D-5L valuation), and surgical/service evaluations (LACES II, ASCELUS-H). He leads haematology and surgical research portfolios within AUHE, addressing frailty-adjusted therapies (FITNESS, Myeloma XIV-RADAR) and treatment duration strategies (STATIC).
Professional Engagement:
Member of the Health Economics Study Group, Centre for Decision Research, and Choice Modelling Centre. Serves on NIHR PGfAR funding panels and teaches Economic Evaluation for HTA (Lucerne) and Decision-Analytic Modelling modules for Health Services Research.
