David LLEWELYN

David Llewelyn is a Full-time Professor of Law (Practice) at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University (SMU), holding this position since July 2011. He concurrently serves as Professor of Intellectual Property Law at King's College London and Honorary Professor at Hong Kong University. His academic journey includes roles such as Deputy Dean of SMU’s School of Law (2012–2019), Visiting Professorships at King’s College London and Queen Mary College, and extensive legal practice in firms like White & Case LLP.

He holds an LL.B. (Hons) from Southampton University (1977) and a B.C.L. from Worcester College, Oxford (1979). His expertise spans Intellectual Property Law, with a focus on Trade Mark Law, Comparative Jurisprudence, and IP Commercialization. He has authored seminal works including *Kerly’s Law of Trade Marks and Trade Names* and *Intellectual Property: Patents, Copyright, Trade Marks & Allied Rights*.

His research examines issues like trademark dilution, statutory damages in IP cases, and cross-border IP challenges, particularly in Asia. Recent articles address topics ranging from plagiarism in legal scholarship to jurisdictional variations in trade mark protection. He actively contributes to IP policy through roles at IP Academy Singapore and advisory positions in legal firms.
